BC 1세기, 로마의 목조 인슐라에서 불이 나면 그의 사설 소방대가 가장 먼저 도착했다. 500명이 넘는 건축 노예를 거느린 로마 최대의 부호. 그러나 그의 소방대는 물을 뿌리기 전에 가격을 흥정했다. 불길이 번지는 동안, 크라수스의 대리인은 집주인에게 제안했다. 지금 이 건물을 헐값에 팔겠는가, 아니면 잿더미가 될 때까지 지켜보겠는가.

한 나라의 한 공장에서 만들어진 작은 물체가 세 대륙의 알고리즘을 움직인다. 이것이 "작은 나라"의 레버리지다.

Behind him came senators. Still in their togas. They had no proper weapons — only chair legs and broken furniture from the senate hall. Members of Rome's supreme legislative body were hunting a fellow citizen in broad daylight, on an open hill.

All he wanted was to enforce a law. A law that already existed. A law that simply hadn't been enforced for 234 years.

"The last profession" is defined not by what AI cannot do, but by what society will not entrust to AI. The criterion is not capability but trust warranty.
